SUMMARY:Autumn School Algorithmic Optimization
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThe Autumn School 2016 of the RTG “Algorithmic Optimization” introduced participants to the main ideas from various fields of mathematical optimization. Ranging from 1) PDE-constrained\, 2) discrete and 3) multicriteria optimization to 4) optimization in statistics a broad overview was provided. The autumn school focused on recent algorithmic advances in these fields. \n  \n  \n  \n                           \n  \n  \nSpeakers: \n \nGöran Kauermann\, LMU München \n\nNon-parametric statistical modelling partially using big data\n\n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nWinnifried Wollner\, TU Darmstadt \n\nAdaptive finite elements in numerical optimization\n\n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nSven Krumke\, TU Kaiserslautern \n\nOnline Optimization\n\n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nGabriele Eichfelder\, TU Ilmenau \n\nMulti-objective optimization\n\n  \nAbstracts: Autumn School Abstracts \nOrganizers: \nEkkehard Sachs\, Martin Siebenborn \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:ALOP Workshop: Reduced Order Models in Optimization
DESCRIPTION:The ALOP Workshop “Reduced Order Models in Optimization” starts on Monday\, September 26\, 2016 at 9:00 and ends Wednesday\, September 28\, 2016 at 16:00. \nReduced order models represent a growing research direction in the modeling\, simulation and optimization of complex systems. During this workshop taking place in September 2016 as part of the Research Training Group “Algorithmic Optimization\,” internationally known researchers will present their latest research results with a focus on particular aspects in the area of optimization. \nThis workshop will grant additional insight into the subject matter and the current research in Reduced Order Models\, following the introductory short-course presented this past summer by the Mercator Fellow Prof. Heinkenschloß of Rice University in Houston. \nResearchers from all areas of optimization are encouraged to participate and to present their work. The conference will provide a good opportunity for exchanging ideas and for establishing contacts with colleagues in a friendly atmosphere. \n \nAmong the participating guests are \nMichel Bergmann\, INRIA Bordeaux \nJeff Borggaard\, Virginia Tech \nJens Bremer\, MPI Magdeburg \nJohn A. Burns\, Virginia Tech \nRomanus Dyczij-Edlinger\, Universität Saarbrücken \nGiulia Fabrini\, Universita di Genova \nMartin Grepl\, RWTH Aachen \nBernard Haasdonk\, Universität Stuttgart \nBabak Maboudi\, EPFL Lausanne \nLaura Iapichino\, Delft University of Technology \nOliver Lass\, TU Darmstadt \nKarl Meerbergen\, KU Leuven \nBernd Noack\, LIMSI-CNRS\, TU Braunschweig \nWil Schilders\, TU Eindhoven \nJohn Singler\, Missouri University \nMartin Stoll\, MPI Magdeburg \nKaren Veroy-Grepl\, RWTH Aachen \n  \nOrganizers: \nEkkehard Sachs\, Volker Schulz\, Martin Siebenborn\, Stefan Volkwein \nThere will be a conference dinner on Tuesday\, September 27\, 2016 at 18:00 at Das Weinhaus in Trier. \n  \n\n\n\nProgram: \n\n Monday\, September 26\, 2016 \n\n\n\n10:00 am – 10:45 am\nJohn Burns\nApproximation for Design and Control of Composite Thermal Fluid Systems: Reduced Models\n\n\n10:45 am – 11:30 am\nKaren Veroy-Grepl\nCertified Reduced Basis Methods in Optimal Control and Data Assimilation \n\n\n1:00 pm – 1:45 pm\nBernd Noack\nClosed-loop turbulence control using reduced-order modeling and machine learning\n\n\n1:45 pm – 2:30 pm\nAndrea Ferrero\nDifferent approaches to the development of reduced-order models for NS equations\n\n\n3:00 pm – 3:45 pm\nKarl Meerbergen\nProgress in model reduction for systems with nonlinear frequency dependency\n\n\n3:45 pm – 4:30 pm\nLaura Iapichino\nReduced Basis methods for PDE constrained Multi-objective Optimization\n\n\n \nTuesday\, September 27\, 2016 \n\n\n\n9:00 am – 9:45 am\nJeff Borggaard\nPOD-Based ROMs of Fluids for Shape Optimization Problems\n\n\n9:45 am – 10:30 am\nJens Bremer\nPOD-based ROMs and Optimization of CO2 Methanation Reactors\n\n\n11:00 am – 11:45 am\nMartin Stoll\nLow-rank solvers for PDE-constrained optimization and statistical inverse problems\n\n\n11:45 am – 12:30 pm\nBabak Maboudi\nStructure-Preserving Model-Reduction of Hamiltonian Systems\n\n\n2:00 pm – 2:45 pm\nBernard Haasdonk\nRB Approximation for Parameter Optimization and Optimal Feedback Control\n\n\n2:45 pm – 3:30 pm\nMartin Grepl\nA certified trust-region reduced basis approach to PDE-constrained optimization \n\n\n4:00 pm – 4:45 pm\nJohn Singler\nPOD computations and POD projections\n\n\n4:45 pm – 5:30 pm\nOliver Lass\nNonlinear robust optimization using a second order approximation technique and model order reduction\n\n\n \nWednesday\, September 28\, 2016 \n\n\n\n9:00 am – 9:45 am\nWil Schilders\n\nMOR in the optimisation of highly nonlinear oscillatory electronic circuits \n\n\n\n9:45 am – 10:30 am\nGiulia Fabrini\nA HJB-POD approach to the control of the level set equation\n\n\n\n11:00 am – 11:45 am \n\nRomanus Dyczij-Edlinger\nModel-Order Reduction in Computational Electromagnetics\n\n\n\n Workshop Program \n  \n  \n
