DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, November 4 2019 at 16:00 c.t.  Prof. Dr. Volker Kaibel\, Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg  will present his recent work entitled \n  \nProjections in Combinatorial Optimization \nFormulating problems via linear inequalities and projections is at the heart of the polyhedral combinatorics approach to Combinatorial Optimization. We present some examples for which this can be achieved with surprisingly few inequalities and we give an almost pictorial proof showing that for other problems exponentially many inequalities are required. \n  \nThe presentation will take place in HS 9. \nPlease join us for coffee at 15:45 in E10

The novel tensor numerical methods are based on a “smart” rank-structured tensor   representation of the multivariate functions and operators\, thus reducing solution of multidimensional integral-differential equations to 1D   calculations. We show how the canonical\, Tucker\, tensor train (TT)\, quantized-TT (QTT) and range-separated tensor approximations  provide the way to solve the multi-dimensional equations on  low-parametric rank-structured manifolds. We consider tensor methods for the elliptic optimal control problems\, for elliptic PDEs with oscillating coefficients and for some quantum chemical  models.
